Top Products for 2005: Promotional Apparel at #1

As noted in relation to my previous posting here on the popularity of golf apparel, I just read an article on the ASI website, “Apparel on top” by Shane Dale, stating that apparel was the top product in 2005 for promotional products. “For the sixth year in a row, wearables are the number one product category sold by promotional product distributors. In fact, of all the products ordered by clients, 73% of distributors say that shirts were one of the top three items bought last year.”

Down the list according to distributors goes… writing instruments at 44%, desk and office accessories at 28%, and fourth place were glassware/mugs at 21.8%. A couple things mentioned that contributed to apparel’s success were; drop in price of T-Shirt manufacturing, good exposure for advertising, and a good return on investment.

Golf Apparel: New Technology and Increased Popularity…. Part 4 of 4

Golf apparel comes in a variety of styles, materials, and technologies to help you stay cool, comfortable and looking good. Along with the presence on the course, golf clothing is quite popular in the corporate world. Golf shirts are commonly worn as corporate apparel in the business casual environment.

Today, more research is going into designing golf apparel to address the specific needs of golfers. Moisture-wicking and stretch fabrics are a couple of the latest trends that offer a higher level of performance and comfort. Technical fabrics such as the sensor cool fabric by the Ping Collection of Golf Shirts have become very popular. The golf shirt acts like a radiator; as the body temperature increases the pores in the fabric expand permitting the shirt to breathe. As the body temperature decreases, the pores in the fabric contract to store body heat. In addition to these fabrics, Dunbrooke offers a variety of performance golf apparel that provides UV protection. Some golf garments even have small pockets for golf tees and extra golf balls.

The new technologies and styles also make the shirts, jackets and caps well-liked in the corporate world. Therefore, the wearer does not have to be a golfer to enjoy the same benefits. The many designs, materials and technologies offer the same comfort, fit, and level of performance on the golf course as well as the office.

Media Coverage on Promotional Products gaining momentum

According to ASI (Advertisting Specialty Institute), Reporters from around the nation are interested in learning more about the promotional products industry and the emphasis they have in marketing. They have featured ASI members and a variety of promotional products in more than 100 media outlets, ranging from television, magazines, new media and newspapers.

2 examples: May 26, 2006 – The legendary Don Polec, of Action 6 News in Philadelphia, highlights the new Logo Bean, the rocket pen, and imprinted roses at the ASI Show.  May 8, 2006 – Advertising Age published a two-page story about the power of promotional products.  The magazine has a readership of 240,000 executives.

More evidence of the important role of promotional products to marketing…

Golf promotional products are increasing as the choice for corporate gifts.. part 3 of 4

Imprinted corporate golf gifts are the perfect business or executive gift that your client and/or employee will use for the majority of the year. The March 2006 Promotional Marketing article, Stretch the Opportunities for Golf Products, states ”Fifty percent or more of executives play golf, and most feel it is a good way to make contacts and do business”. With so many executives playing golf and more joining the ranks daily, personalized corporate golf gifts are becoming more popular and appreciated than ever before.

Executive golf gifts may include clocks in the shape of a golf ball or golf club, imprinted Titleist golf balls or Ping, Nike and Callaway golf shirts, gloves, and golf towels. Imprinting your company name and logo on the golf items provides your clients with a fine golf gift that they will use and keep, while you get to advertise to them subtly, over and over again.

So many people play golf on the weekends, when traveling, and at business meetings, its safe to assume golf products are valued and put to good use. However, many promotional golf products make great gifts even to the non-golfer. For example, a golf shirt is a comfortable choice even for people who don’t play golf. There are numerous choices for imprinted apparel, from high-end golf shirts to t-shirts to caps. The next article will discuss the various styles, materials and technologies in golf apparel to help you choose the right gift for the golfer and non-golfer in your company or client list.

Promotional Products for Golf…. Part 2 of 4

Last week we discussed the popularity of golf in the United States. This week we are discussing Golf Tournaments, their popularity, who produces golf tournaments and some of the most widely used promotional products used at golf tournaments. According to the Corporate Logo Magazine March 2006 article over 1 million golf tournaments are held in the United States each year. Meeting planners, corporations, charities, schools, associations and civic groups make up the six major groups that host golf tournaments.

Golf tournaments can be used to raise money for charity, gain recognition, recreation, thank you for support and competition. Many various types for promotional products are available for each of these categories. For example, low cost items such as golf tees, golf pencils and golf balls can be used for the charity events. These items show appreciation to the participants of the charity event. Golf towels, because of the large imprint area are ideal for gaining recognition. Golf bags, tournament kits and golf apparel make great appreciation gifts and golf awards for participants of competitive golf tournaments.

With the popularity of golf tournaments increasing many organizers are turning to golf promotional products to show appreciation and present awards to the golf tournament participants.
